Down the road from the Volksoper Vienna lies the renowned Café Weimar, a favourite with artists, theatre visitors and locals. This long-standing café first opened in 1900 under the name of Café Orleans, but was later renamed Weimar to mark the foundation of Germany’s post-WWI Weimar Republic. Over the years, the venue has undergone some remodelling, but the antique interior is remarkably well preserved and the elegant Bösendorfer piano and chandelier lights give the Café Weimar an air of stately magnificence.
